iNYALA 2022 BEYOND LIGHT OFFICIAL LAUNCH & AWARDS CEREMONY

The iNYALA 2022 Beyond Light New Media Art Exhibition was officially launched on 1 December 2022. Curated around the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the exhibition features 17 new media art installations in LED display cubes that transport the audiences to a space of sight and sound by reimagining through the intersection of art, technology and data. Held from 26 November till 25 December 2022 at Ground Floor Atrium, Fahrenheit88 Shopping Centre, the exhibition is spearheaded by Helio Media with local and international collaborators including Filamen, Jun Ong, Kaoru Tanaka, FabU, LIE Design and Inner Voices Productions.

Helios Loo, the founder of iNYALA, kicked off the launch speaking on his aspirations for iNYALA to be a platform for new media art that nurtures local talents to showcase their creativity and innovation to the public. He emphasised on sustainability focus of the platform, with this year’s instalment of iNYALA 2022 themed according to the SDGs as a springboard for the voices and concerns of the younger generation. The iNYALA exhibition itself also features innovative sustainable practices with 75% of the materials utilised are recyclable and refurbished items. 

Newly elected Member of Parliament for Petaling Jaya, YB Lee Chean Chung echoed Helios on the need to support the Malaysian art industry and many up-and-coming talents. He spoke on his belief for more public art spaces like iNYALA that are open and accessible to all in creating a more liveable city. Together with YB Lee Chean Chung, Helios Loo, Puan Nor Aida bin Ismail, the Timbalan Pengarah Bahagian Pengurusan Strategik Tourism Malaysia, Ms Elina Emily Faisal Dr. Faisal, the Assistant Manager for Environment, Sports and Arts & Culture Project of Yayasan Sime Darby, Mr. Chegne Eu Jin, the Assistant Marketing Manager of Fahrenheit88 and Mr. Wayne Yap, the Senior Manager of Co-labs Coworking officially launched the iNYALA 2022 exhibition by activating a mini iNYALA LED display cube stand.

Helios Loo carried out a walkthrough tour of all the 17 digital artworks on display for esteemed partners and media friends with student finalists explaining about their artwork. The student artworks include CarbonBubbles by Iwani Bt Muhammad Izhan, Not A Dream by MMUTB, 55100/22126 by Blankmalaysia,  1 Movement 0 Execution by Ammar Hazman, The Tower of Perfidy by Nur Farahhani Azwa Binti Rosli, TemPixel by Rufiyan Bin Ramli, Heat Escape by One Shot Production, Heart in a Box by Irfan Jamil, The Mar Effect by Sadthna Sargamm Sathi, Good Health and Well-Being by Undefined Production, Zero Hunger by Artistic Gang, and Poverty Tripped by Theeran Rajamokan. The 12 student finalists are mainly from Multimedia University (MMU), Dasein Academy of Art, Universiti Malaya, Han Chiang University College of Communication.

The artists’ artworks include Vivid Dreams by LIE, Amorphous by Tan Sher Lynn (FabU), Glowing Plants by Kaoru Tanaka, Till The Greens Are Gone by Si Ying and the entire massive art sculpture – Pixels by Jun Ong. 

The walkthrough experience was followed by the awards ceremony of student winners. The judges for this year’s instalment include international and local industry experts Kaoru Tanaka, Fariz Hanapiah, Jehcob Tan, Calvin Mok and Crystal Jow. The Best SDG Awareness Award went to TemPixel by Rufiyan Bin Ramli from MMU and the Best Visual Award went to Poverty Tripped by Theeran Rajamokan from MMU as well, while the Best Creativity and Best New Media Art Award both went to Heat Escape by One Shot Production from Dasein Academy of Art. The winner of each award received a trophy and cash prize of RM3,000.

The iNYALA 2022 has come to an end on 25 December 2022 with overwhelming visitors throughout the one-month long exhibition. iNYALA 2022 would not be possible without our valuable and supportive partners and sponsors such as Filamen, Tourism Malaysia & Cuti-Cuti Malaysia, Yayasan Sime Darby, Fahrenheit88, Co-labs Coworking, NovaStar, Jun Ong, LIE, De Carton, Nextrend System, Inner Voices Productions, Rubix Communications, Immersio and KLABF2022.
