iNYALA Idea Pitching

In accordance to iNYALA’s theme this year, “Imagine the Impossible”, 16 finalists from various higher education institutions across the country were shortlisted for their interactive light art installation submissions.

The 16 finalists were invited for idea presentation pitching session on 3 August 2019, Saturday at the venue their creation could potentially be displayed throughout the entire month of November 2019 – REXKL.

The finalists presented their ideas to a panel of 5 judges who are industry experts in their field of design, architecture, digital media, interactive design which consists of Jun Ong, Pamela Tan, Shin Chang, Abdul Shakir and Helios Loo.

There was a myriad of concepts and innovative use of digital media tools: 3D visualisation software, LED lights, motion sensors and even programming tools such as Arduino boards throughout the pitching session. There was a strong comprehensive coverage of graphic design, 3D, animation, motion effect, interactive design incorporating environmental and climate change awareness through technology. In addition, there was also creative interpretations of traditional art such as wayang kulit (shadow puppetry) from one of the presenting teams.

The judges provided their technical insights and comments on aesthetic consideration, technological execution and feasibility. Consistent utilisation of interactive-driven art in the digital age was found in the artworks through the presentations by the participants. As these young practitioners have grown up with media consumption and proliferation of technologies, it is inspiring to see the utilisation of art through these new interactive mediums. 

Top finalists will be announced on 5 August 2019 where each team will be granted with seed funding of RM1,500 to kick start the execution of their artwork. Several workshops will be organised from August to October 2019 bi-weekly to aid the young finalists in their artwork creation and exhibition in November 2019. The workshops are also open for urban art eclectic, media and tech professionals, design enthusiasts, students and lecturers.

We at iNYALA were excited and impressed by the proposals and exchange of ideas which we see the relevancy and possible application in the exploding digital media market. Hence, we are eager to continue to provide forward thinking content and resources to nurture young talents and creative professionals throughout the competition and its upcoming workshops to nurture a broad community of people working at the intersection of art and new technologies.
